Benefits

The major advantage of hydroelectricity is that fossil fuels are no longer required and the subsequent introduction of CO2 in the atmosphere is avoided, as well as the production of gaseous or liquid emissions which may pollute air or water.
The environmental impact of hydroelectric plants depends on their dimensions and on the changes experienced by the territory.

Micro-Hydro plants

The micro-hydro plants can be applied more easily than the greater ones, both for their electromechanical and civil work costs and for their reduced environmental impact.
In the case of the micro-hydro, in fact, great damming works, that can alter the natural equilibrium of rivers, are not necessary.
Hydraulic works linked to hydroelectric power stations can give their contribution to environment protection through their secondary activities, for example river-bed cleaning and water control, in order to hinder the hydro-geological upheaval of the territory.
